Moreover, fully automated in-line indexing systems are categorized according to workpiece holders with loose and inflexible sequencing. The latter permit shorter workpiece holder changes and consequently shorter cycle times, the drawback being that a defect causes the entire plant to come to a standstill. This is not necessarily the case with loose chaining, if a sufficient number of buffer locations has been provided.
